Local Forecasts and Warnings Program

NOAA's Local Forecasts and Warnings Program puts "NOAA in your neighborhood" by delivering essential services to local communities through its distributed structure of 122 Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs), 19 Weather Service Offices (WSOs), and 2 data collection offices (DCOs). LFW comprises the end-to-end forecast process by observing the atmosphere, assimulating observations into numerical models, turning model data into national environmental information, providing local warning and forecast services to affected communities, delivering services to local and national customers through complimentary dissemination techologies, educating customers on how to best use NOAA's services, assessing service performance, turning requirements into new services, and training personnel to reach maximum effectiveness. The end-to-end forecast process and decentralized structure puts NOAA close to its customers and provides essential environmental services that "touch every American every day."
