NOAA to Host National Stakeholder Forum for Next Generation Strategic Plan
Public encouraged to help chart NOAA's future
In recent months NOAA has gathered stakeholder input for the agency's Next Generation Strategic Plan through extensive consultations across the country and an online survey. This information is being used to formulate NOAA's long-term strategy. NOAA now seeks public suggestions on specific actions to achieve this strategy.
On December 2, Jane Lubchenco, Ph.D., Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator will lead a stakeholder forum at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The public meeting is hosted by NOAA and George Washington Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration. Advanced registration is recommended by November 20.

Thank you for your interest in the upcoming NGSP National Stakeholder Forum. We received a tremendous response from all of you and have reached capacity. Please revisit this website on December 1, 2009 to see how you can still participate in NOAA's long-term strategy.
The objective of the Next Generation Strategic Plan is to inform and respond to the priorities of the new administration; to engage and respond to stakeholders; to respond to the long-term external challenges facing the agency; and to meet the GPRA and related requirements. This initiative aims to support our role in helping understand and predict changes in Earth's environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet our Nation's economic, social, and environmental needs.
For more information on the development of the NGSP, please refer to the NGSP Presentation or the more detailed NGSP Terms of Reference. You may also refer to the schedule of events, a regularly updated timeline of the NGSP development process.
NOAA’s Office of Program Planning and Integration (PPI) is leading the development of the NGSP, to be completed in early 2010. Throughout this year-long development, we'll gather and analyze data on long-term trends, challenges, and uncertainties from a variety of perspectives—environmental, economic, political, scientific, technological, and social. And we want you to be a part of it. Please share your insight, knowledge, and vision. You can and will make a difference through the next 25 years and beyond.
